Headteacher's Message -

Good Afternoon,

It is with some surprise that we have arrived at the halfway point of the school year. As always, the past fortnight has been busy with wonderful activities and joy despite the weather!

Last week, the school community came together to recognise Children's Mental Health Week and the theme was 'This is My Place'. The children explored what it means to belong so everyone feels a sense of belonging. 'Place to Be' have shared resources on their website so families can continue the discussions at home. If you would like to know more, please click on this link. Families and communities - Children's Mental Health Week

Thank you to everyone who was able to 'drop in' and share your child's learning at the recent VIP event - the children were very excited. A gentle reminder to any parents who did not attend Parents’ Consultation Evening this week — please get in touch with the school office to arrange an appointment. These meetings are an invaluable opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and well-being.

Although we are halfway through the year, there are still so many things going on. I want to take this time to wish you a happy and restful half term. Let's hope that when we return, the rain has ceased, at least slightly. Please note that children return on Tuesday 24th February as staff are attending the GST INSET day on Monday 23rd February.

 Happy Half Term

Mrs Ratcliff

Reminders -

 PARKING -

PARKING - We have received a number of complaints from the local residents and neighbours regarding parking during morning drop off and afternoon pick-ups. Please could we ask that you are considerate and DO NOT park in front of driveways and block neighbours getting in and out of their houses. DO NOT PARK on grass verges or park on private property.

We appreciate that there is lack of parking in the immediate vicinity of the school due to building works and parking restrictions but we have still witnessed a number of inappropriate parking. Please remember that the one way system is a very busy road and we urge you to cross the road safely at all times.

Please could we suggest an alternative options of getting to school such as:

  • Consider walking, cycling, or using public transport if possible
  • Make use of available on-street parking further away from the school, and walk / scooter the remaining distance
  • If you need to turn around, use public roads or appropriate turning points, not private property

We would be grateful if you could share this reminder with anyone who may be collecting or dropping off your child, such as grandparents or family friends.

SCHOOL LUNCHES - Please below the new school lunch menu which will start after half term. If your child/ren normally has a school meal, please can we remind you to order a school meal in advance. Ordering closes on the Friday before and meals cannot be ordered after this time.

The Past Fortnight -

 Book Swap -

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to the Book Swap event. We had planned for this to happen this week and requested that books be donated in to school by Monday 9th February. We truly appreciate the generosity shown by our school community. However, we have not received enough donated books to hold a whole‑school swap in the way we originally planned.

-Mrs Garrick

School Lunches  -

This week the children celebrated Chinese new year and Valentines day in the lunch hall.

Y6-

This week in ART, Year 6 have created their Banksy inspired screen prints. They have produced some striking designs with a message of positivity. On Friday, the children will be lining the playground to share their positive messages with the school community.

-Miss Sen

Y5 -

Year 5 have taken part in the 'do' stage of DT this week and have created their own fairground rides. They have studied pulley systems and how wheels & axels allow the mechanics of fairground rides to work. They showed great resilience and problem-solving capabilities.

- Miss May

 Y4 -

Year 4 have been working hard on their Great Works this week, printing their Hundertwasser‑inspired stamps. The children used bold lines, patterns, and vibrant shapes to represent water, their creativity has been brilliant to see.

-Mr Denman

Y2 -

This week we concluded our learning theme, 'What can we learn from the Great Fire of London?' by burning down houses which the children have made, to depict the scene of this historical event in 1666.

-Mrs Van Der Schaff

 Y1 -

This half term Year 1 have been learning about materials and their properties. The children put their knowledge to the test this week when they conducted an experiment to work out which material would be best to patch up Miss Stimpson's broken umbrella. They predicted which materials would be waterproof and which would be too absorbent!

- Mrs Luxford

Reception -

Last week, our Reception children became real-life traffic detectives! The children stepped outside the school gates to carry out a traffic survey, keeping a sharp eye on all the vehicles passing by Ashley School. It was the perfect way to wrap up our topic on transport, giving the children a chance to see different ways of travel in action. From counting cars to spotting big buses, our Reception children had a fantastic time bringing their classroom learning to life!

- Mrs Semec

Sport News-

A BIG well done to our year 4 children who playing in a football tournament at Cleves. The mixed team played really well and supported each other, winning one game, drawing another and losing two games. The Ashley team did really well!

On Monday 2nd February a group of children across KS2 attended a Panathlon event at Cleves. They worked brilliantly as a team to complete a series of sporting activities. They cheered each other on and we walked away with 1st place overall. They did Ashley very proud.

 Big Question Time -

It was the turn of Year 2 to put their tricky questions about God, Life and the Universe to Rev. Jonny this Wednesday. The children engaged thoughtfully in a meaningful discussion looking at a range of questions including: Why did God make mosquitos? How big is God? and Why did people not like Jesus?  To the question "Why can't we see God? - Rev. Jonny explained : "We may not be able to see God but we can see God's goodness all around us."

Thank you to those of you who have popped a question in the box in school - keep them coming in!
