Headteacher's Message
Good Afternoon,
Welcome back after the half-term break! It has been wonderful to see the children return to school well-rested and ready for another busy few weeks ahead. There is a real sense of excitement in the air as we begin preparations for the festive season—Christmas rehearsals are already underway, and we can’t wait to share these special moments with you soon.
A huge thank you to our fantastic FOA for organising such an amazing fireworks event for our school community. It was a brilliant evening that brought everyone together and created lasting memories.
We were also delighted to have a positive visit from Susan Costa in preparation for our upcoming SIAMS inspection. A SIAMS inspection reviews how our school lives out its Christian vision (Love others as we love ourselves) to help pupils and staff flourish. It is an opportunity for us to share what makes Ashley so special. Susan's feedback was encouraging and highlighted the strengths of our school community.
Since the start of October, we have welcomed many prospective parents into our school. As always, the children did us proud! Our visitors have commented on the warm, welcoming environment and were especially impressed by our Year 6 pupils, who guided them around with confidence and enthusiasm. If you know someone who missed the prospective parent tours, please let them know we have one more on the 7th January 2026.
Thank you for supporting the Poppy Appeal. It has been a great success, with all funds raised going to the Royal British Legion. Our Year 6 pupils led a thoughtful Remembrance Service, and across the school, we observed a two-minute silence to honour those who served. We have spent time talking with the children about the significance of Remembrance Sunday, ensuring they understand its importance.
Thank you for your continued support in all that we do. We look forward to an exciting few weeks ahead as we approach the festive season!
Mrs Ratcliff

The Past Fortnight -
Football -
Well done to our Y6 Boys football team and Mr Older , who came second in the Royal Holloway tournament. The boys showed wonderful Ashley values while representing the school.

Year 6 -
Life in Year 6 has been busy: however, we paused on Remembrance Day to commemorate all those, past and present, who sacrificed their lives in wars and conflicts. The children recited the poem 'In Flanders Fields' and paid tribute to some of those soldiers whose names can be found on Walton's War Memorial. Year 5 and parents of those in Year 6 joined in a two-minute silence. Thank you to all of Year 6 for being so respectful and for speaking your lines so clearly: 'we will remember them.
-Miss Bardel
Year 4-

This week in Year 4, the students have been learning about the proportions of a face to sketch their own portrait. They first looked at some examples of portraits done by Hans Holbein from the Tudor era to discuss how he used proportions to make his portraits appear more realistic. The students then looked at some general rules that help guide the artist to make their portraits proportional. Using a mirror, they began to sketch themselves as accurately as possible creating their own portrait!
- Miss Courtney
Year 3 -

A huge congratulations to Skylark Class for their massive improvement in sporting ability at our mini- Olympics trip last week. Last year we came 7th and this year we came 2nd! We are so proud of you all for showing resilience and great sportsmanship.
- Mrs Whitby
Year 1 -

This half term we are learning about how our toys have changed over time and we started the learning with a special delivery from Chertsey Museum. We loved looking at and exploring the range of old toys and comparing them to our own, coming up with adjectives to describe what they look like. This week, some of our old school toys appeared to come to life in the night, and we have discovered them in some unusual places! This has sparked many ideas for our sentence writing as we continue to practice building sentences using colourful semantics.
- Mrs Luxford
Reception -

In reception we have had great fun exploring the celebration of bonfire night, we learnt about the story of Guy Fawkes and made some exciting firework pictures. We used the end of a cut up kitchen roll to print some colourful shapes and colours. As part of our work for Remembrance day we have used potato printing to make red poppies.
- Mrs Lulham
Interfaith Week at Ashley-

This week the children have been immersed in many activities to celebrate interfaith week and have had the opportunity to listen to guest speakers from different faith backgrounds. Rev Cathy led collective worship on Tuesday and spoke to the children about the importance of Remembrance Day and the unity shown by communities from different faiths in helping to bring peace.
- Mrs Nawaz

Infants and Juniors participated in a lunchtime pop up prayer space to mark Interfaith Week which looked at the symbols of different world religions.

Community Notice Board -

Many of you will have heard of the local charity Smiles2Smiles. They support those in the local community who need a little extra support, especially at Christmas.
Last year, with huge help from Ashley school, the team at the charity gave many more ‘Smiles’ by sending out just short of 450 hampers and making 65 bags for the children and women in our 4 local refuges. The charity receives their nominations from churches, schools, doctor’s surgeries and local children’s services. Their aim is to compassionately and discreetly help support those in Elmbridge who may be feeling vulnerable and need an extra hand.
This year, the charity expects the number of referrals to rise significantly. They rely heavily on donations from the local community and the Ashley School faith group are proud to announce that Ashley School will once again be having a collection to support them on Friday 21st November 2025. For many families in a refuge, this may be the only present they receive so the Smiles2Smiles team would be extremely grateful to receive NEW and UNUSED:
Christmas sweets, treats, biscuits etc
~ Toiletries/bath bombs/bubble bath/gift sets
~ Hats/scarves/gloves/socks
~ Lunch boxes/water bottles
~ Back packs
~ Arts and crafts sets
~ Stationary
~ Games
~ Lego
~ Toys for boys and girls – all ages
The donations can be dropped off at the gates on Friday 21st November 2025, either at drop off in the morning or at pick up in the afternoon where our lovely faith group will be on hand to assist you. If you are unable to drop off on that day, then you can contact Mrs Murray via the School Office and she will be happy to arrange another convenient time with you.
Most importantly, if there are any families you think would benefit from the charity’s help, you should contact Clare on smiles2smiles45@yahoo.com by 24th November. You can also follow them on their Facebook page Smiles2Smiles.

HELP! -
Can You Help Us Fill Our Daily Mile Track?
We're looking to improve our Daily Mile running track around the field by adding more bark chip or wood chip to the surfacing. The track has become very muddy, and we'd like to make it more accessible for all our pupils throughout the year.
We need your help! If you or anyone you know has:
- Access to bark chip or wood chip materials
- Contacts with local tree surgeons, landscaping companies, or garden centres who might be able to donate or supply materials at a reduced cost
- Equipment or expertise to help with laying the bark chip when it arrives we'd love to hear from you! Please contact the school office on 01932 227695 or email info@ashley.surrey.sch.uk if you can help in any way.
Thank you for your continued support in helping us maintain excellent facilities for our children.

Friday 2nd January 2026 at 7pm
Saturday 3rd January 2026 at 2pm
Saturday 3rd January 2026 at 7pm

Well Done -

Felix (6) has, once again, smashed a tournament! At the EARLY AUTUMN OPEN AT CROYDON HIGH SPORTS CLUB, Felix participated in the 11 & Under singles category and came first out of 12 boys. Furthermore, he beat a player ranked Number 3 in the country! Bravo, Felix, we look forward to seeing you on Centre Court one day!

Jura (Y4) represented the Horse Ranger wreath laying memorial at Hampton Court on Remembrance Sunday.
