Headteacher's Message -
Dear Parent/Carers,
It has been a pleasure to welcome all the children back after the Easter break! I hope you were able to enjoy some special moments with your families and that everyone feels refreshed and ready for the exciting, busy term ahead. The children have settled quickly into the term and their learning.
As we begin the summer term, I’d like to take this opportunity to remind families about our school uniform expectations. Children should come to school in the correct uniform, including proper school shoes (not trainers). If your child prefers, they may bring trainers to change into once at school for playtime. Long hair should be tied back, and hair accessories should be sensible in size and preferably in school or neutral colours. We’re also encouraging our junior pupils to ensure shirts are tucked in, top buttons fastened, and ties worn neatly. Thank you for your continued support with this—teachers will contact you if there are any ongoing concerns.
Next week, school will be closed for the May Day bank holiday on Monday, but it will still be a busy week. The children in Year 3 will be swimming at Imber Court and participating in SCC walkability, Year 5 are off to Three Rivers for an English and media lesson and then on Friday the whole school will be celebrating VE day. Our caterers will be providing a special VE Day picnic lunch and all the children will be enjoying a street party in the playground to celebrate this momentous national event. Another exciting week to look forward to!
As a school, we compete in a wide variety of sports during the year. We would like to replace the football kits and buy a set of sports tops for cricket, netball etc as well as some athletic vests so the teams look smart. Would your company, or someone you know, like to sponsor the cost of these? We would include a name/logo on the kit. Do get in touch with Mrs Rudman or myself if you would like to know more.
Finally, you may have noticed changes around the site that took place over the Easter break. The raised flower planter outside Year 2 has been repaired – thank you to the FOA for their financial support. Also, the wildflower bed outside the Harmony Centre has been refreshed with new plants and a path so the children can wander through the flowers and look at the wildlife. Thank you to Angela who is weeding the flower beds at the front of the school and replanting the areas. If you have a love of gardening and could donate some time, please let the school office know.
Thank you to Mrs Fasolino who is weeding the flower beds at the front of the school and replanting the areas. If you have a love of gardening and could donate some time, please let the school office know.
Have a wonderful Bank Holiday weekend.

REMINDERS
VE DAY - We will be celebrating the 80th anniversary of VE Day on Friday 9th May 2025. Your child is welcome to come to school wearing something red, white and blue alongside their usual school uniform to celebrate. This could be a t-shirt, hair clip, nail varnish or a pair of socks that have these colours on them. We politely ask that children do not use hair dye in their hair.
We will also be hosting a VE day lunch on the playground for all the children. If you would like to book a lunch on this day please do so via your scopay account by Wednesday 7th May. Please see the recent email that was sent out with the special lunch options.

The Past Fortnight
Year 5 -
The children have enjoyed beginning their new learning enquiry, 'What does Nature do for us?' and have already produced some lovely cross curricular work linked to this question, including some detailed sketching of natural objects found in and around our school field during Art. Last weel in English, they published some accomplished acrostic poems inspired by British wildlife and this week, they have begun reading and analysing some magnificent 'Odes to Nature' in preparation for writing a poem in praise of a chosen wildlife subject of their own. We cannot wait to read their finished odes soon!

Year 4 -
Year 4 have been looking at Egyptian hieroglyphics as part of our art project where we will eventually end up creating a sculpture of an Egyptian cartouche. We began by experimenting with drawing hieroglyphics in different media onto different textures. We explored, created and used them to create different words. This was a fantastic experience which allowed us to put ourselves in the place of an ancient Egyptian and think about how they communicated.
- Mrs Ready
Year 3 -
Year 3 enjoyed a Judaism workshop this week where they were visited by a volunteer from the synagogue. We also enjoyed our first swimming lesson of Y3. Children showed true resilience and all came out of the pool with smiles on their faces.
-Miss Williams
Year 2-
Last week Year 2 visited Brooklands Museum as part of our History topic, 'How has transport changed over time?' The children impressed the tour guides with their wealth of knowledge and impeccable behaviour. We are incredibly proud of them!

Neurodiversity Environmental Audit & INSET Training
Before the Easter holidays, we welcomed two neurodiversity advisors from Surrey for an environmental audit of our whole school. They were really pleased with the progress we have made in making our school environment as supportive of children with a neurodiversity as possible and identified some areas for us to focus on such as our visual timetables and how to use them more effectively and consistently across the school to reduce anxiety, especially for transition.
At our most recent INSET training with both teachers and support staff, we discussed the different presentations of neurodiversity (autism, ADHD, dyslexia etc) and the different ways we can have a whole school approach to support neurodiversity through environmental adaptations we can make. We have further training lined up to continue to improve our staff knowledge and repertoire of ways to make our school inclusive.
Mrs Morgan’s London Marathon Race Report -
Lining up at the start of the London Marathon 2025, I felt a mix of nerves and excitement. After 18 weeks of solid training—and thankfully avoiding any injuries—I felt strong and ready. The weather was on our side: the sun was shining, the skies were clear, and the wind was minimal. It was a beautiful day for running, though I hoped the heat wouldn’t get the better of me.
From the very beginning, the atmosphere was electric. The crowds were absolutely incredible. I could hear people calling my name all the way round—it felt like the whole city had come out to cheer us on. The support was constant and heartfelt, with spectators handing out jelly babies and sweets, giving all of us runners little boosts just when we needed them most.
Having my friends and family there made it even more special. Their support was everything. Knowing that the children and parents from Ashley School were cheering me on gave me a massive mental lift when things got tough. And with people tracking my progress and sending good vibes from home, I felt like I was never running alone.
There were definitely challenging moments, but the energy of the crowd and all the encouragement helped me push through. I kept running, didn’t stop to walk, and crossed the finish line in 4 hours, 22 minutes and 49 seconds — a time I’m really proud of, especially in such warm and crowded conditions.
One of the most unforgettable sights was seeing Big Ben near the end—I knew then I was almost there, and it gave me that final push to finish strong.
Thank you to every single person who’s supported me, sponsored me, and been in my corner throughout this journey. Knowing you were with me—whether on the sidelines or in spirit—made all the difference. This whole experience was unforgettable, and I’m so grateful to have shared it with so many amazing people. https://www.justgiving.com/page/natasha-morgan-4?utm_medium=FR&utm_source=CL&utm_campaign=015
