Home School Link Worker

Miss Porter is the Home School Link Worker at Ashley.

"My role is to build positive links between home and school, and to support pupils and their parents/carers by working closely with families, staff and outside agencies. At the heart of what I do is making sure both children and their families feel supported, listened to and understood, so we can work together to help every child thrive.

Home–school liaison is all about creating strong, positive partnerships between home and school to support children’s development and learning. By working together, we can spot any concerns early on, reduce stress for families, and help put the right support in place before things become more difficult.

Every family goes through challenges at times, and no two situations are the same. Some families may just need a little guidance, while others need more ongoing support. We’re here to support your child’s wellbeing and progress in school, and we understand that when things are difficult at home, it can affect how a child feels and learns."

We can support with a wide range of things, including:

  • Financial worries, debt, benefits and food-bank vouchers
  • Family breakdown or separation
  • Attendance and punctuality
  • Mental or physical health (for both pupils and family members)
  • Domestic abuse
  • Bereavement
  • Support for young carers
  • Managing behaviour and emotional needs
  • Signposting to other services and early help support
  • Help with forms and paperwork
  • Support during school meetings
  • Information about local parent/carer support groups
  • Toddler group for the community - book a place


We know that children do best when home and school work closely together. Our aim is for every child to feel happy, safe and supported, and to enjoy coming to school.

Parents/carers and pupils are always welcome to get in touch if they would like support. We can explore any concerns together and work out the best way forward.
