Spring Term
Year 3 have enjoyed learning about African wildlife this term. We have discovered some amazing facts about the incredible animals that live in Africa. Did you know you can hear a lion’s roar over 5 miles away?
Kim Hale, from the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation, visited us to talk
about conservation. We were interested to hear all about an elephant orphanage as well as a project to help save the African Hunting dog.
As part of our learning we have explored animal movement through dance. In art we used papier mache to make masks after carefully studying the different patterns on animals. Did you know every zebra has a unique pattern of stripes?
Fox Class were proud to share their learning through their class assembly. The school hall was turned into the African Savannah. Music from the Lion King played and the school watched lions, zebras, giraffes, hunting dogs, meerkats, cheetahs and elephants prowl around. A great end to a half terms topic.
Next half term the focus will be on people of Africa.
Book Week 2012
Year 3 had a great week with work and play in equal measure. The chosen book and author was Anthony Browne’s “Gorilla” and we used the illustrations as inspiration to draw our own to accompany the “Just So” stories we wrote. Stories like “How the snake got its hiss”. The stories were in keeping with our topic this term, Africa.
We had a visit from storyteller Janet Dowling who used the art of storytelling to enrich the childrens’ language.
On one day we all dressed up as a book character and the photos below show Badger class’ (and their parents and carers’) efforts.
Autumn Term
Our Roman day at Chertsey Museum!
Year three had an action packed day at Chertsey Museum last week, learning all about our topic on the Romans. We dressed up to find out what Romans would wear and why, then we handled and examined real ancient Roman artefacts (very carefully!) before making our own pots using clay. Next we completed a quiz by finding information in all the different parts of the museum. After our Roman style packed lunches we made wax tablets and even learnt how to write a shopping list in Latin! At the end of the day we had a little time to begin making our very own mosaics. What a fantastic day!
Keep an eye out for our pictures on the Chertsey Museum website!
