Welcome to Ashley’s Sports Page!
Ashley School provides a variety of sports for every child in each year group. The children have two hours of PE timetabled per week through which we develop the six areas of activity as set out in the National Curriculum – Dance; Games; Gymnastics; Athletics; Outdoor and Adventurous activities; Swimming. The sports that are taught include football; tag rugby; netball; basket ball; kwik cricket, tennis, rounders and athletics. All pupils are given the opportunity to take part in a range of tournaments and sports festivals both within school between year groups and with other schools.
Pro-Direct work in partnership with Ashley School and teach the games lessons to the children in Year 1-6. They are qualified professional coaches with a rich knowledge of sport and they provide fun, creative games lessons that enhance the children’s skills in sport.
Ashley School also works with Harlequin Rugby Club and each year the coaches work with different year groups and provide specific coaching skills in tag rugby.
Ashley School also provides a variety of exciting sports clubs ranging from gymnastics, to football and karate. There are lots of opportunities for children to try new sports and work with skills sports stars!
Sports Council
The Sports Council was set up in September 2011 to give our young sports stars the opportunity to take on a leadership role. There are two children from each junior class, a boy and a girl, and these children were chosen by their class mates. They were chosen for being talented in sport, for having the confidence to share opinions and for having a passion to enhance the sporting opportunities in Ashley School. The Sports Council is organised by Mrs Rich and Mr Phil and we all meet every month to discuss, organise and arrange sport events. The Sports Councillors have been very busy since September. They have supported their classes with sporting activities, they have helped to order new equipment for the school, they have provided information back to their class and teachers and they organised a very successful rugby tournament for the juniors.
Here are some messages from the Sports Council;
Adam: “We work hard to get children into sport”.
James: “We like sport so we try to get younger children into it”.
Grace: “We organised a rugby tournament and did all the organising, choosing the teams, refereeing, scoring and we learnt the Hakka dance!”
William: “We like being in charge!”
Miles: “We get to choose which sports we play”.
Lily: “We meet once a month to discuss sport for the school”.
